You have been scammed and have become a victim of fraud, what should you do?


When you are faced with a situation where you believe you have been a victim of fraud or have provided your personal information to a fraudster, it becomes an urgent and important matter that requires immediate intervention and sorting out. Scammers are highly skilled at using a variety of methods, be it calls, emails or SMS, to gain access to your finances or personal information such as social security numbers or bank details. If you find yourself in a situation where you have already made a payment to a fraudster, it is likely that the funds have already been transferred, but you should contact the company through which the transaction was made to see if a refund is possible and take appropriate precautions in the future. It's also important to take proactive measures to protect yourself from fraud, whether it's educating yourself to recognize the signs of fraudulent schemes, installing anti-virus software on your devices, or installing additional layers of authentication to protect your accounts.


Situation: you have been victimized by a scammer with theft of tangible assets. 


When you have been victimized by a fraudster, you need to take steps to recover your funds and prevent further losses.


If payment was made by credit or debit card:

Contact the company or bank that issued your card. Report the fraudulent transaction and request that the transaction be canceled with a refund. Explain the situation, providing all necessary information about the transaction and proof of your legitimacy.

If the payment was made with a gift card:

If you sent a wire transfer through a service such as Western Union or MoneyGram:

Contact the company that conducted the wire transfer and point out the fraudulent transaction. Ask to cancel the transfer and return the funds to you, providing all necessary documents and information about the transaction to facilitate the refund process.


If the payment was made through a wire transfer or money transfer app:

If the payment was made with cryptocurrency:

Contact the company through which the transaction was made and request that the transaction be canceled. If the payment was made in cash:

Contact the U.S. Postal Inspection Service or other delivery service to request an intercept of the payment sent, providing all necessary documents and transfer information. It is important to act quickly to minimize losses.
