Why Buy a Hardware Wallet? Hardware wallets make cold storage of cryptocurrency both secure and easy.

Keepkey Wallet Online Review

The Keepkey HD hardware wallet was released back in 2015. Today the market is replete with a variety of cold-use devices for cryptocurrency. In this review, we will study in detail the second largest hardware wallet in the world - Keepkey and the features of its client interfaces.

The Kipkey weighs 55 grams, making it the heaviest hardware wallet. Weight is not the only thing that makes it stand out from the competitors - the dimensions are 35 x 90 x 10mm. The new device is wrapped in a protective film.

The large size allows for a nearly 8cm OLED display (256 x 64 pixels) on the front panel. On one side, you can find a single button to control all operations; the other side has a micro-USB port. The back case is made of anodized aluminum and dark metallic. Keep on reading to find out how the wallet functions.

How to Use the Keepkey Wallet

Recently, the developers have proposed a new version of the Keepkey client called ShapeShift, which will be discussed in the next section. Moreover, when clicking on the link indicated on the package lid, the user is automatically redirected to the new ShapeShift interface. Gradually the previous client will be replaced with a new one.

The Keepkey client application is an extension for the Google Chrome browser. It is available on PCs with operating systems Mac, Linux, Android, and Windows.

Registration Procedure

Set the login details first. The wallet name can consist of Latin letters, numbers, and some special characters. It allows you to identify a device if the user applies several devices at the same time. It can be changed later if necessary.

The PIN-code is entered through the blind matrix. This means that the PC display shows empty cells without values, and the numbers are displayed on the device in a chaotic manner. This prevents your PIN from being compromised in case of any attack or malware.

After dialing the required PIN-code, press the Choose PIN-code button and confirm it again to eliminate the error.

The next stage is recording a seed phrase. This process is also called Backup. The seed consists of 12 words. These 12 words must be written down on a card with numbered lines attached to the wallet. Store it and confirm the actions by long pressing the button on the device.

How to Send/Receive Coins

After activation, the user enters the start window with the first account on it and the default Bitcoin account. To the right of the coin's emblem, the balance is shown.

To accept the first coins to addresses, click on the Receive Bitcoin button. After that, an unused public address will be generated, which is displayed both on the PC and on the display of your device. The receiving address can be used only after verification. The button for copying the address is to the right of it.

Next, forward this address to the person who wants to send funds to you, and wait for the receipt.

Compatibility and Accepted Currencies

Thanks to the usage of Chrome extensions, KeepKey can be used on almost all operating systems. Mobile use for Android with an OTG cable is also possible:

- Windows

- Linux

- Mac

- Android

- Chrome OS

As for the tokens that you can purchase at this service, here is the assortment:

Client Care & Support

KeepKey has an informative support page that breaks down into several subcategories. You can find answers to frequently asked questions, as well as instructions, especially helpful for the beginners. Everything is available only in English. Of course, if the documentation does not help, a company’s agent will be assigned to handle the client's issues. This will only be possible in written form.

Verdict

One of the most important aspects of a hardware wallet is security. How has KeepKey shown itself in this aspect?

KeepKey can be used with popular platforms including Android. This allows you to use your wallet on the go. KeepKey is currently slightly behind in cryptocurrency support compared to other brands like Ledger and Trezor. Still, the good news is that you do not have to pay any fees as this wallet is offline.
